TOOELE — A Utah man was arrested Tuesday and accused of ramming into another man's parked vehicle as the victim stood behind an open door.

Marco Fred David Chavez, 31, was booked into the Tooele County Jail and charged on Wednesday in 3rd District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony, or in the alternative aggravated assault with a road rage penalty enhancement, a second-degree felony or in the alternative aggravated assault with serious injury, a second-degree felony; drug possession, a class A misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.

On May 14, a man had pulled into the parking lot of a convenience store in Tooele at 608 N. Main after spilling his drink in his car. As the man was cleaning his car, Chavez pulled up and "got into a short verbal altercation" with him, according to a police booking affidavit.

Chavez drove off in his Mazda. But a short time later, "while the victim was standing behind the driver door, cleaning his car, the Mazda came back and rammed the door of the victim's car, pinning the victim between the door and the frame of the victim's car," the affidavit states.

The man suffered injuries to his jaw, shoulder and arm, according to the affidavit. It does not indicate what the initial argument was about.

Tooele police obtained surveillance video of the incident from the convenience store and later identified the driver of the Mazda as Chavez.

"On (Tuesday), Marco Chavez was located (and) arrested. The damage on Mr. Chavez's car was consistent with the manner of the collision," the affidavit says. "During Marco's arrest he was found to be in possession of white crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine."
