A month-long investigation has cleared a Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officer of wrongdoing when she chased an injured deer in Draper.
After the injured deer ran into a car, the driver criticized the officer for allegedly endangering children by chasing the deer with a rifle near a school. Now, an investigation has determined the rifle was unloaded, except two times when the wildlife worker loaded to shoot the deer after determining the background was safe.
"The DWR employee who was involved in this situation followed all the DWR policies and laws. And also, we found that the individual acted in a very cautious, careful and really a very professional way," said DWR spokesman Mark Hadley.
The division also disputes the claim that many children were in the area. The investigation determined most of the kids had already left school for the day.
