FRUIT HEIGHTS — A man died early Sunday after his vehicle became engulfed in flames after hitting a retaining wall.

About 1:45 a.m., emergency responders were sent to 400 N. Mountain Road. A small passenger car had struck a retaining wall at a high speed and one person was trapped inside, said Davis County sheriff's spokesperson Stephanie Dinsmore.

First responders arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews extinguished the blaze and extricated the driver and treated him.

"Despite those efforts, the patient tragically died at the scene," the Kaysville Fire Department said.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was in his 40s, Dinsmore said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
