BRIGHAM CITY — Jessica Kjar says she struggles to give her 6-year-old son answers as to why his grandmother was suddenly taken away.

"When I told my son, he said, 'She was my best friend,'" Kjar recalled.

Kjar's mother-in-law, 65-year-old Angie Kjar, was found in the street near the intersection of 850 South and 425 East in Brigham City just before 8 p.m. on Monday. Police said she later died at the scene from injuries that appear to be from a collision with a vehicle.

Jessica Kjar said Angie Kjar cherished her time with each of her six grandchildren.

"Her grandkids were everything to her," Jessica Kjar said. "Every soccer game, every graduation, every swim lesson. She was at every single one of them. And that was for all of her grandkids across the board."

As Jessica Kjar and her family prepare to pay tribute to Angie Kjar's life in an upcoming remembrance service, they are still looking for closure.

"We just want to know who did this," Jessica Kjar said. "We just want the answer. It just doesn't make sense in our head. And it's really hard for us to kind of close this chapter without that information."

At the same time, Jessica Kjar says her family is especially grateful for the efforts of first responders, investigators, and the passerby who stopped to call for help and stayed by Angie Kjar's side in her final moments.

"We'll never be able to tell him how grateful the entire family is for him just staying with her," Jessica Kjar said. "Because heavens knows when we would have gotten that phone call otherwise."

Anyone who might have information about the accident Monday night or might have seen something that could help with the investigation is asked to call the Brigham City Police Department, at 435-734-6650.

A GoFundMe* has been set up to help with Angie Kjar's funeral expenses.
