MIDVALE — A quiet Sunday evening turned into a chaotic scene at the Springs apartments in Midvale when a fugitive's escape attempt quite literally came crashing down through a neighbor's ceiling.
Residents said the commotion began around 6 p.m. as police arrived at the complex, located at 6945 Wellwood Road, in pursuit of a separate fugitive. But when officers knocked on the door of Jeremy Jensen's unit, things took an unexpected turn.
According to police, Jensen tried to evade capture by climbing into the attic. What he didn't anticipate was the fragile structure above him. Moments later, he fell through the ceiling of a neighboring apartment, startling the resident inside.
"I actually was standing right here when I heard a loud noise in that room," said Peyton Grace, a neighbor who witnessed the chaos unfold.
Grace described the scene as "really chaotic," with officers rushing through the complex and one even carrying a riot shield.
"They start running up, one of them has a riot shield, I'm like, 'This is crazy,'" Grace recalled. "Then I hear him yell, 'Get your hands on the ground or we're going to tase you.'"
Police quickly subdued Jensen, and the situation de-escalated. Grace noted how surreal it was to witness such an intense moment in what he described as a "very safe, very quiet" neighborhood.
Jensen was taken into custody and is now being held at the Salt Lake County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including trespassing and drug-related offenses.
