American Fork traveled to West, finished strong to claim 18-12 win in defensive battle

It was an early-season heavyweight matchup between Salt Lake and Utah counties Friday night at West High.

Why did we choose this game?

In Week 3 of action, we have a standout game between No. 4 West in the KSL.com Sports' Top 20+1 rankings and No. 5 American Fork being played in Salt Lake City.

Both teams have shown a propensity to score a lot of points, with West scoring no less than 48 points per game in their first two contests. The Panthers opened up the season with a 50-23 win over TImpview, and American Fork finished the job a week later, defeating Timpview 48-25.

It's safe to say this one will likely be a shootout between two top teams. The real question comes down to which one of these defenses can step up to get the edge in an exciting non-region game.

It's a classic 6A vs. 5A contest, with the winner taking a significant step forward ahead of region play.
