Summer is in full swing! If you have school kids to keep busy or just want to get outside more, we can help. KSL Events is our new calendar of diverse Utah events to help you discover the perfect activity. Use it to find everything from workshops to festivals and sports.

For July 6-12, here's a few of the events to get your artistic fix.

Dance to a big band

Learn some smooth moves at a beginner-friendly lesson at Dance Nights at the Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Each Tuesday night, a pro from Ballroom Utah teaches a free dance class. You can immediately try out your skills with a live band. On Tuesday, July 8, the guest is Riverton Big Band. If you're looking for family activities in Utah, this one fits the bill. All ages are welcome.

Embrace the melodrama

Boo at the villain, cheer for the loversick hero. Pickleville Playhouse in Garden City, Rich County, is presenting a delightful melodrama and invites you to join in the fun. Will love and the good guy conquer all? Bring the entire family to see "Trouble in Hunky Dory," a tale set in a quaint little Western town, of course.

See where magic is made

Have your kids been keeping up with their summer reading schedule? Reward them with a trip to the Harry Potter Exhibition at the Shops at South Town in Sandy. There you'll see costumes and props from the film franchise. And even if you're just a kid at heart, you'll be thrilled to learn how your favorite movie moments were brought to life.

Soak up a watercolor exhibit

If you're braving the heat in St. George and need things to do in Utah that include air conditioning, stop by the Sears Art Museum on the Utah Tech University campus. "Butterfly Effect: The Watercolors of Andrew McBain Sinclair" showcases the artist's talent for creating iconic and serene scenes.

Make your kids art smart

Teach your kids something new at the Family Arts Festival at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art in Provo. Families with children ages 12 and under are invited to learn about crankies, a mini moving panorama. Kids can even make their own to take home.

Experience traditional ink artistry

Explore the complexity of womanhood through the ink art of Lu Wei. The "Entering Into the Serpent" exhibit includes ink paintings, videos and bound books that explore deep feelings and thoughts on motherhood. The exhibit is held at Ogden Contemporary Arts through July 13.

A day at the museum

July is Utah Museum Month, which means it's the perfect time to scratch your art (or science) itch. Do you need a little more motivation to go? Download the museum passport. When you visit at least five, you can earn an exclusive Utah Museum Month sticker to put on your laptop, water bottle or car bumper.

Ready to get your summer adventures underway? You can find full event details on these and other activities on KSL Events.
