MIDDLE EARTH — "The Lord of the Rings" is probably the most nostalgic story of my lifetime, and this tour of a Lego Shire, narrated by Sean Astin, brings it all back.
The short video includes small details like matching Bilbo Baggins' 111th birthday party exactly, down to the dragon firework set off by Merry and Pippin. It's also got a good amount of humor, including a sleeping Sauron, Gandalf saying "melon" while knocking on Bilbo's door, and the actor for Sam joking that "quite a few eaves were dropped."
And it doesn't just show the Shire; the video follows four hobbits to Rivendell, where a whole new group of character pieces are seen.
The mini-movie ends with a speech reminiscent of Samwise Gamgee's iconic speech to Frodo when they leave Osgiliath.
"Stories that meant something, even if you're too small to understand why," Astin said, holding a Lego version of himself.
The video's summary says it is an advertisement for the over 2,000-piece Shire Lego set, which was released in April. The set features Bilbo's hobbit hole, Gandalf's cart full of fireworks, and interior pieces of Bag End, Bilbo's home.
I'm sure these Lego sets won't fit into my budget — especially since I know if I got started, I'd have to get all of them. But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy looking at them in this video and wishing for a full, extended-edition Lego trilogy.
