SANDY — An Orem woman with a history of driving while impaired was arrested again in Sandy over the weekend after police say her blood-alcohol level was recorded at over five times the legal limit.

Michele Snow, 59, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of DUI, reckless endangerment, being an alcohol restricted driver, having an open container of alcohol in her car, failing to stay in her lane and driving without registration.

On Saturday, Sandy police were called to investigate a woman who witnesses say was driving recklessly on I-15 just before 1:30 p.m. and was unable to stay in her lane.

"She was changing lanes erratically without signaling, nearly causing an accident by changing into a lane that was occupied," according to a police booking affidavit. "She would not stay within a lane, she straddled lanes for much of the time, also closely tailing the vehicle in front of her for much of the time. Multiple times she drifted into an exit lane only to swerve to stay on the freeway."

Officers found Snow in a parking lot at 9000 South and 225 West, just off the freeway. They noted that she had droopy bloodshot eyes, seemed lethargic and police could smell a strong odor of alcohol. During a DUI test in which Snow was asked to close her eyes and tilt her head back, "Michelle almost fell backward during the test at approximately 10 seconds," the affidavit states.

She was then given a portable breath test that measured her blood-alcohol level of 0.265%, according to the affidavit, or more than five times the legal limit. About two hours later, after she was taken into custody, she was given another test at the Sandy Police Department and her blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.198%, police say.

Officers reported finding two open bottles of alcohol in her vehicle as well as prescription medications.

The affidavit says Snow has seven prior DUI convictions dating back to 2002.
