THE FARM — Have you ever been to the Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship and Festival in Midway? I went several years ago and was blown away by the contestants' skills. There was a "Dock Dogs" event where dogs did long jumps into a pool of water and wow, they could seriously soar.
Of course, the main attraction is the herding. Those dogs were amazing at steering sheep where they wanted them to go. I've seen the movie "Babe," so I know that it's not easy to move a herd of sheep.
I can't remember which handlers and dogs took home prizes the year I attended, but a quick look at the Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship and Festival website reveals that last year's winners were Scott Glen and Pip. Milton Scott and Bob took home the silver medal, while Beverly Lambert and Annie claimed the bronze.
This year's competition will be in May, so you might want to go check it out. It's always nice to spend the day up in beautiful Midway.
I've had sheepdogs on my mind after seeing this little video.
Nothing earthshaking here. Just a back-bending gymnast who knows how to hold a pose while her dogs do some great goat-wrangling. Anyhow, I'd probably give this crew perfect scores for creativity.
