BRIGHTON — A 53-year-old man from Connecticut is dead after apparently hitting a tree at Solitude Ski Resort on Saturday afternoon.

Ski patrolers were called out at 1:15 p.m. when an unresponsive man was found near the bottom of the Middle Slope ski trail, according to Unified Police Sgt. Aymee Race. It appeared "(he) may have crashed into a tree," she said.

Ski Patrol members began lifesaving measures, but Race said their efforts were unsuccessful.

The man was identified by the Unified Police Department as Daniel Negrelli of Canton, Connecticut.

Race added that Negrelli was wearing a helmet and "proper gear, but still succumbed to (his) injuries."

Correction: An earlier version incorrectly spelled Daniel Negrelli's last name as Megrelli.
