ON THIN ICE — For most ice-fishing enthusiasts, a day on the ice isn't likely to include a full-blown rescue.

That wasn't the case for Travis Johnson, though, whose ice-fishing experience at a Utah reservoir was anything but typical.

He noticed a young deer had wandered onto the frozen surface and was struggling to make his way across the early December ice. So, Johnson jumped into action.

Using a sled, Johnson carefully scooted across the ice until he reached the flailing deer, which he placed in the sled before returning safely to shore (where the deer got a few pets).

"I know, it's embarrassing having an ice fisherman save you," Johnson joked with the deer.

After laying motionless for a while — likely due to shock, embarrassment or a combination of the two — the deer eventually got to its feet and ran off.

For Johnson and the young deer he rescued, the experience is likely one neither will forget anytime soon.
