Greg Neft reporting A show of good sportsmanship between two football teams was marred by a prank, as a player at the Layton versus Davis football game used the end-of-game handshake for apparent revenge.

Layton City Police Sgt. James Petrie said it appears to be case of getting back at the rival team. "There was an indication that the opposing team, the Davis High team had done some damage to the Layton High football field, and it was in retaliation," he said.

So, Petrie said, one of the players decided to mete out justice his own way at the end of the game between the two teams. "One of the people on one of the teams had put a thumbtack into their glove, and then during the shaking hands," he said. "Several of the people on the other team had their hands hit with that tack."

No one was seriously hurt, but that student now faces some trouble.

Davis School District says the student has been kicked off the football team for the rest of the year. Layton High will also take disciplinary action.

A Davis High parent also wants to press criminal charges.
