GILFORD, New Hampshire — A 17-year-old boy is being called a hero for jumping into a runaway boat and stopping it before anyone was seriously injured.
Brady Procon was spending the Fourth of July weekend with his family on Lake Winnipesaukee, in New Hampshire, when a man was thrown from his boat in Smith's Cove. The boat, however, kept going.
With the throttle pushed down, the boat spun uncontrollably in circles in the cove.
That's when Brady sprang into action. Video of the incident shows a man driving a jet ski with Brady on the back. The jet ski circles with the rogue boat until it gets close enough for Brady to make the risky jump.
He appears to take a bump to his side chest as he jumps onto the boat and hits the captain's chair while trying to maintain his balance. But Brady is unfazed and, a short time later, is able to stop the boat.
Despite the jump, Brady told the Western Mass News he doesn't see himself as a hero.
"They were calling me a hero and all that, but I wouldn't say I'm a hero. I think anyone would have done that if they had that opportunity to do it," the teenager said.
