KAMAS — A 72-year-old woman appeared in 3rd District Court Tuesday to face felony charges accusing her of repeatedly threatening construction workers with what was likely her late husband's gun and badge because she was angry about speeding in her neighborhood.
Malinda Karn Deleon is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.
Deleon had been upset with a speed problem in her neighborhood for several years but "her agitation has been increasing", according to a police booking affidavit, with her sometimes chasing down cars in her own vehicle and confronting drivers about their speed through the private neighborhood.
The week of her arrest, officers say she took a police badge, likely belonging to her late husband, and threatened to have construction workers deported because of their race. She confronted the workers again on April 3, this time with a gun, "screaming and yelling that she was going to kill them if they keep speeding," the affidavit alleges.
The workers recorded Deleon, sent the video to law enforcement and a warrant was issued for her arrest Friday. She was booked into Summit County Jail.
