SALT LAKE CITY — Troopers on Sunday identified a 46-year-old man wrong-way driver who died after crashing into a bus transporting Army Reserve cadets on I-15 Thursday morning.

The driver was identified as Jason Musnug, of Herriman.

About 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, Musnug was driving a Chevy Silverado north in the southbound lanes of I-15 when it hit a bus in the HOV lane near 400 North, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden. The bus was traveling from Utah State University to Camp Williams for field training exercises when it was struck, injuring the driver of the bus and one of the 22 cadets aboard.

The driver, an active duty service member, underwent surgery on her wrist at a local hospital. The cadet received staples for a gash to his head, according to UHP Cpl. Luis Silva. Emergency dispatchers received at least one call reporting the wrong-way driver prior to the collision, added Silva.

Southbound I-15 was closed at North Temple until about 10:30 a.m. with traffic being diverted at 600 North during the morning commute.
