WANSHIP, Summit County — A Minnesota man who was arrested in Tooele County in 2021 for allegedly transporting marijuana has been arrested in Summit County for investigation of the same crime but, this time, with a lot more marijuana.
Victor Wallace, 49, of Minneapolis, was booked into the Summit County Jail for investigation of possession of 100 pounds of marijuana or more, drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and obstruction of justice.
About 11:40 a.m. Monday, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper pulled over a rental car heading east on I-80 near Wanship for "multiple lane travel violations." After stopping the car, the trooper noticed "multiple large black trash bags were partially covered by a blanket" in the back, and the driver, Wallace, was "confrontational" and questioned the trooper about why he was stopped, according to a police booking affidavit..
As Wallace was looking for his license, which he eventually stated he couldn't find, he opened a glove box where the trooper spotted a gun, the affidavit states.
The trooper then asked Wallace to step out of the car.
"While waiting for the driver to exit his vehicle, I stood by the rear bumper of his vehicle. The driver appeared nervous and disoriented as he exited the vehicle and for some reason opened the hatch of his vehicle using his key fob. The male driver then walked back and realized he had opened the trunk and nervously attempted to close the trunk. While the trunk was open I could observe additional large black trash bags," the trooper wrote.
After being questioned and allegedly giving the trooper a false name, Wallace was arrested. Troopers searched his car and reported finding approximately 153 pounds of marijuana in the trash bags. They also learned Wallace had been arrested and charged in Tooele County for a similar incident in 2021, and had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to show up for court.
"The subject informed me he also has additional court proceedings coming up in Minnesota and has additional warrants for his arrest in the state of Minnesota," the affidavit says.
