THE PERFECT PITCH — Christmas is just around the corner and a star of the streaming hit "Ted Lasso" has a new holiday singing special coming out this week to celebrate, but it's a completely different and unexpected star of the show who seems to be wowing everyone in an early season preview.
Apple TV+ is set to release "Hannah Waddingham: Home For Christmas" on Wednesday. It will feature Waddingham, who played soccer club owner Rebecca Welton in an Emmy-winning turn on the show, singing many Christmas classics.
Fans of the show already knew of Waddingham's impressive voice, as she comes from a line of opera singers and has performed in numerous musicals. She also sang quite a bit on the show, seemingly stealing the scene with her range every time.
Phil Dunster never really had those types of moments on the show and doesn't have as noticeable of a musical background. Dunster is currently up for an Emmy for his role as Jamie Tartt, a pompous soccer prodigy who warms into a likable AFC Richmond player on the show, which wrapped up with its third and final season earlier this year.
So when Apple TV+ released a performance from Waddingham's upcoming Christmas special a week early, "Ted Lasso" fans were pleasantly surprised to find out Dunster has a singing talent of his own. In this clip, uploaded last week, Waddingham is joined by Dunster and the Fabulous Lounge Swingers in their version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
The crowd offers a a bit of a roar as Dunster belts a solo and Jamie Tartt won over the internet yet again this year. As one person commented on social media, "Is there anything the man can't do?!"
Perhaps Jamie Tartt is finally becoming the best version of himself as a crooner.
