SYRACUSE — Deputies say a teenager is in custody after a shooting at Antelope Island State Park Wednesday afternoon.

The Davis County Sheriff's Office said it received the report of a road rage incident at 1:36 p.m. about a mile away from the toll booth. When officers arrived, they administered first aid to a man in his 50s who had received a gunshot wound. The victim had been stabilized, sheriff's officials said, but the seriousness of the injury has not been released.

"We're grateful that law enforcement was able to arrive in six minutes, give lifesaving aid to this individual, and hopefully this person will now survive," said Stephanie Dinsmore, Davis County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

Two other people in the victim's car were unharmed in the incident.

During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, the office said the situation is under investigation as deputies try to determine what led to the shooting.

Deputies said there were three people in the car that had the suspected shooter, and the two who did not shoot stayed behind and cooperated with police. The 16-year-old suspect ran away, but was found shortly after with the help of a Department of Public Safety helicopter, the sheriff's office said during the press conference.

All three people in the car were taken into custody.

"No other known threats to public safety," deputies said on X, formerly Twitter.

The Utah Division of State Parks said causeway access to Antelope Island was closed for two hours and the public was asked to avoid the area. The sheriff's office said the park would remain closed through Wednesday and potentially into Thursday.

Several social media posts describe more than a dozen police cars from different agencies racing toward the causeway to Antelope Island.
