LOGAN — Police identified the pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle and killed Monday evening near the Utah State University campus.

Utah Highway Patrol said at 5:35 p.m., Shelly Compton, 58, of North Logan, was jogging west on 1400 North near 750 East. A Dodge Dakota and a semitruck were traveling east at the same location, when the Dodge passed the semitruck on the left then changed into the right lane.

Compton crossed to the median then crossed in front of the pickup, UHP Sgt. Roden said. She was hit in the eastbound lanes, sustained critical injuries and was transported to the hospital.

She died later Monday evening at the hospital, Roden said.

Police closed 1400 North for several hours after the crash.

Additional information about the crash has not been released.
