HOUSTON — The occasional disappearance of a small item or two is often marked by a shrug of the shoulders or the assumption that it might've been eaten by the washing machine, but residents in a Houston neighborhood have found a different explanation.

A small black outdoor cat Cleo has become a bit of a neighborhood kleptomaniac. The cat burglar has brought items from all across his neighborhood to his owner, Jean's, kitchen floor. The items range from books to outdoor gloves, a bikini and other items that might be lying around garages or lawns.

Cleo's criminal activities escalated while the family was on vacation, with the cat crawling through open car windows or house windows. His collection of items grew prompting a neighborhood basket to return the items to the possibly unaware owners.

"He has no remorse, but I apologize on his behalf," said his owner.

A sentiment recognized by any cat owner.
