LEHI — A Lehi man is facing criminal charges accusing him of shooting at two teenagers who threw rocks at his home.
The 45-year-old man was charged Wednesday in 4th District Court with illegal discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony, and intoxication, a class C misdemeanor.
About 10 p.m. on Sept. 16, police say two 17-year-old boys were in a business parking lot and urinated against a fence that separated the parking lot from the man's property. The homeowner threw rocks at the teens and the teens threw rocks back at him while making at least one threatening comment, according to charging documents.
"One large rock thrown by the juveniles broke the defendant's sliding glass door. Believing it was a gunshot, the defendant retrieved his AR-15-style rifle and shot twice at, and struck the juveniles' vehicle," according to the charges.
The boys told police they were about to drive away when their vehicle was shot, prompting them to get out and run, abandoning the car. No injuries were reported. Officers who talked to the homeowner noted he had slurred speech and glazed eyes and his blood-alcohol content measured at 0.018%.
