TAYLORSVILLE — A Taylorsville man has been arrested and accused of assaulting a teenage girl multiple times over an eight-day period, during which police say he allowed her to live in his garage and gave her drugs.

Dean Smith, 43, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of two counts of object rape, six counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and child endangerment.

On Tuesday, Taylorsville police received a report that a 16-year-old girl who had been listed as a runaway and was missing was located near 5000 South and 1500 West.

The teen told detectives she met Smith in Salt Lake City eight days prior and he asked if she wanted to get high. Smith took her to his home, where he supplied her with methamphetamine, heroin and alcohol in his garage, where she stayed for over a week, a police booking affidavit states. During that time, police say she was sexually assaulted multiple times.

When questioned, Smith said he "thought the juvenile victim did appear young," but claimed the girl told him she was 18, even though she didn't provide identification when he asked for it, according to the affidavit.
