WALLSBURG, Wasatch County — Police have released the name of a motorcyclist who was killed after hitting a vehicle on state Route 189 on Saturday.
About 6:30 p.m., Cory Hughes, 24, of Vineyard, was riding a motorcycle southbound on S.R. 189 when he approached the curve near Wallsburg, in Wasatch County. A Toyota Prius was on Main Canyon Road and had stopped at the stop sign before traveling directly across S.R. 189 to a Deer Creek day-use area, according to Utah Highway Patrol trooper Eddie Wright.
While the Prius traveled to the far right lane of the highway's southbound lanes, it was struck by the motorcycle, said Wright. Hughes died at the scene, but the two occupants of the Prius were uninjured.
Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash, but speed is being investigated, according to Wright.
