THE STADIUM — Drones have really taken off in recent years, haven't they? It seems like everybody and their dog has one. When the mountain above my neighborhood caught fire a few years ago, there were pesky little drones buzzing around while the firefighters tried to save homes from burning.
I guess folks just love their aerial footage. But sometimes we need to pump the brakes a bit, because there are situations where drones aren't the best option.
For starters, please don't fly drones near areas where firefighters are working. It's dangerous and selfish.
Also, don't fly drones at a balloon release. This video highlights the potential hazards of one such release at Ciudad Victoria in Tamaulipas, Mexico, in October 2021.
One of the balloons apparently got caught up in the vortex of the drone, causing it to fall and nearly hit one of the cameramen, according to the description.
Yikes. Getting hit by a falling drone sounds painful. Glad everyone (but the drone) escaped unharmed.
