HURRICANE, Washington County — A woman was arrested and accused of DUI after police say she hit and critically injured a pedestrian early Friday.
About 2:26 a.m., a vehicle hit a pedestrian in the roadway at 6245 W. 100 South in Hurricane, in Washington County. Brianna Boykin, 20, was driving a Mini Cooper when she hit a 23-year-old Hurricane man, Hurricane police said in a news release.
The man was taken in critical condition to St. George Regional Hospital. The Washington County Accident Reconstruction Team was called out to assist with the investigation.
Boykin was arrested for investigation of DUI, negligently operating a vehicle resulting in serious bodily injury, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a minor, driving left of the center line, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
Investigators found impairment, combined with speed and potential reckless driving, played a significant role in the crash, according to the news release.
Police said there were two other passengers in Boykin's vehicle, but they fled the scene before officers arrived. There was another pedestrian in the roadway when the man was hit, and police believe that person also left the scene before officers arrived.
Police said all of the people involved were at a party in the Shadow Ridge subdivision Thursday night. Officers are asking anyone who was at the party who could help identify the witnesses to contact the police department at 435-635-9663.
