IN THE FAIRWAY — As the 125th Utah state amateur championship reaches the match-play Round of 16, here's a reminder to all the spectators: Watch out.

BYU signee Cooper Jones, the former all-state golfer out of Lone Peak, posted such a reminder from a recent round he was playing at Alpine Country Club.

The former Salt Lake City amateur champion was playing a recreational round with his brother, Austin, and friend, Quin Abbott, when Jones set up an unmanned tripod with a camera in front of one of his fairway shots on the 14th hole, he told KSL.com.

Then a thought crossed his mind: How close could he get to the camera?

Turns out, pretty dang close, as he stroked his 3-iron through the gap in his golf cart and just past the camera. See for yourself via his Instagram post below.

Jones, who advanced to match play at the state am for the second-straight year before being eliminated in 19 holes by Utah Tech freshman Zach Felts in the Round of 64, finally got a chance to play a recreational round after playing the Sunnehanna Amateur in Pennsylvania and the Northeast Amateur in Rhode Island with his older brother Zac. The duo will team up again this fall at BYU, where Zac will be a junior and Cooper Jones will play his freshman season prior to serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Zac Jones, the defending champion of the 124th Utah state amateur, was eliminated in Thursday's Round of 32 by Kenny Palmer, 3 and 1.

His little brother, meanwhile, was making a habit of these close-call trick shots. He posted this tee shot nearly clipping his phone — again — back in November, a video that garnered nearly 5,000 likes.

There's only one thing left to say:

"Fore!"
