WISCONSIN — Modern garbage trucks are amazing. Those robotic arms reach out, grab your garbage can, lift it in a graceful arc, thoroughly empty it, then place it back on the ground. I've seen it done hundreds of times, and I've never seen an issue occur.
But, as you might have heard, robots aren't always safe. And sometimes those robotic arms on the garbage trucks can do some damage.
According to the video's caption, this incident occurred in Montello, Wisconsin.
"Came home to the bin upside down in the middle of the driveway," explains the caption. "Looked back on our security camera and caught this garbage truck failure. Still don't have a replacement."
In retrospect, I'm not surprised by the garbage truck failure. With all the cans they're grabbing and swinging around in a day, it's no wonder that one or two will get mangled. As they say, you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.
But why did the driver then put the garbage can upside down on the driveway? That's the true mystery here.
