HURRICANE — They show up in wind, rain, 100-degree heat and snow, said Hurricane Police Chief Lynn Excell. They work in areas of heavy traffic, where drivers are sometimes rude, guiding children to safety. They come to work every day and have for years, he said, because they know what they do is important.
"They are true unsung heroes," Excell said.
The Hurricane City Council honored four crossing guards for their dedication to protecting, guiding, watching over and sometimes counseling Hurricane Valley children.
"The mayor wanted to publicly recognize and thank our crossing guards for their diligent efforts in protecting our children as they walk to and from school each day," said Dan Raddatz, public information officer for the Hurricane Police Department. "All of these men have been serving our community for over five years now."
