THE KITCHEN — It's not a secret to anyone in my life that I don't really care for cooking.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy good food as much as anyone. I just like it better when I don't have to make it.

But Dylan Hollis almost — almost — makes me want to put on an apron and brave the hazards of measuring cups and frying pans.

The TikTok and YouTube creator has amassed a following by cooking and eating vintage recipes on camera. For instance, in one video, Hollis discovers that peanut butter onions taste about as good as they sound. But the pinto-bean cake? It's surprisingly delicious, according to Hollis.

It's not just the sometimes-strange combination of ingredients that make Hollis' videos fun. It's his own brand of humor. The rapid-fire quips punctuated by quick, sharp video cuts, the names he gives common ingredients ("moo juice," "floof powder," "eggies") — and his total commitment to the bit — make his content easier to consume than cookies fresh out of the oven.

In his latest video, Hollis bakes a Jell-O poke cake, a dessert that's been a staple at my extended family parties for as long as I can remember. He uses raspberry Jell-O and tops the cake with whipped cream. I, however, prefer poke cake the way my grandma makes it: with orange Jell-O, topped with vanilla pudding.

After watching this video, though, maybe I'll have to give his recipe a shot.
