LOGAN — The Utah Avalanche Center in Logan issued an avalanche warning Thursday morning.
The center says there is high danger of avalanche on drifted upper- and mid-elevation slopes, especially in the Northern Bear River Range. Other drifted slopes, including at lower elevations, are still in considerable danger of avalanche.
"People should stay off of and out from under drifted slopes steeper than 30 degrees," the center tweeted.
On Wednesday, the center also warned of high avalanche danger in the backcountry, saying that both natural and human-triggered avalanches were likely.
The National Weather Service also warned of dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero in northern Utah, specifically in eastern Box Elder County, northern Wasatch Front, Cache Valley, Wasatch Back and Bear Lake and Bear River Valley. The wind chills are expected to last until 11 a.m. Thursday and could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
"Avoid outside activities if possible," the Weather Service said. "When outside, make sure you wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves."
