CANADA — Jasper National Park is located in Alberta and covers about 4,200 square miles, making it the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies. It was created in 1930 and is home to diverse species, including caribou, red fox, porcupine, lynx, marten, river otter, grizzly bear, mountain goat, timber wolf, cougar and wolverine.
It's also one of the best places in the world to watch the northern lights.
So when a wildfire erupted in the park, some intrepid soul set up a camera to capture time lapse footage of the night sky. Check it out:
I hate seeing forests destroyed by fires, but this video is definitely fascinating. Rarely have so many colors filled the sky, as the glow of the flames blends with the vibrancy of the aurora borealis.
Also, there's good news to go along with this video. The wildfire on Chetamon Mountain was contained ahead of schedule thanks to rain, cool temperatures and bravery from the firefighters who hurried to the rescue.
