Randall Jeppeson reporting Gas prices in Utah are dropping, but much slower than in the rest of the nation. And now a state investigation is underway.
On one corner of Salt Lake City, at North Temple and Redwood Road, the highest price for regular unleaded is $2.85, the lowest is $2.78. That's actually down a bit over the past couple of days, but the state's executive director of the Department of Commerce Friancine Giani says they found out Utah's refineriers dropped their prices 30 cents several weeks ago.
We've actually saw numbers from the refineries. We know where the rack prices are. Something has not translated down to where we fill up our cars," she says.
Giani says their investigation is now focused on gasoline retailors, who so far says they're still using gas they bought while the prices were high. Giani says she isn't sure she buys that, and is requesting more information.
