BEAVER — A woman who police say led officers on a chase at speeds over 120 mph and then refused to come out of her car — even calling 911 at one point once she was stopped — is facing a number of charges.

The 62-year-old Salt Lake woman was charged Wednesday in 5th District Court with failing to stop at the command of police, a third-degree felony; reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor; driving on a suspended or revoked license, a class C misdemeanor; and going 123 mph in an 80 mph zone, an infraction.

On Tuesday, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper watching for speeders along I-15 near the Beaver-Iron County line observed a "very fast vehicle" about to pass, according to a police booking affidavit.

He recorded the woman going 108 mph, and then "clocked the vehicle up to 113 mph" by the time the trooper pulled onto the freeway to pursue her, the affidavit states.

By the time the trooper caught up with the woman, she had pulled behind a semi-truck and was going 65 mph, the trooper noted in the affidavit. However, she refused to pull over.

"I had my lights and siren going with no response. I pulled alongside and tried to get the driver to pull over, siren and honking my horn with no luck. I have had times where drivers expect you to pull in front so I tried that too. At that time the vehicle bolted out to the left lane and passed at a high speed and continued at a very high speed," the trooper wrote.

The trooper continued to chase the woman south on I-15. Other troopers spiked the woman's tires outside of Cedar City, the affidavit states.

"The top speed of the vehicle during the pursuit was about 123 mph. It continued after being spiked and when the front tires went flat it finally stopped on the right shoulder," according to the affidavit.

The vehicle stopped about 47 miles after the trooper first spotted it. But the woman would not get out.

"We attempted several times to get the subject to exit the car and were told that the subject had called 911. After a little time the subject finally complied and (exited) the car," the affidavit states.

The woman, who has a history of speeding, according to court records, was driving on a suspended license and had two warrants out for her arrest, both for traffic violations, the trooper wrote. In August 2021, she was charged in Millard County Justice Court with going 115 mph in an 80 mph zone, according to court records.
