SALT LAKE CITY — Police are searching for someone who shot a 20-year-old in the leg during an altercation Wednesday afternoon.

A group of people had begun fighting near the intersection of 600 South and 200 East when shots were fired and one person was struck in the calf and received an injury that was not life-threatening, Salt Lake police said in a news release. Officers responded at 4:35 p.m. and found that one person had put a tourniquet on the victim's leg. Paramedics then transported the person to a hospital.

The individuals involved fled after the shooting, police said. Officers searched the area and did not locate them. Police were not able to provide a description of the shooter or the individuals involved but the shooting is under investigation by the Salt Lake police's gang unit.

Salt Lake police asked anyone with information about the case to call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 22-86779.
