SALT LAKE CITY — A motorcyclist died in a crash in Salt Lake City on Wednesday.

The motorcycle and an SUV collided around 4:10 p.m. near the intersection of 400 South and West Temple, according to Brent Weisberg, a public information officer with the Salt Lake City police.

The motorcyclist, 36-year-old Josue Vega, was southbound on West Temple, traveling at a high speed, while the SUV was northbound and turned left onto 400 South, according to the preliminary investigation. Vega then collided with the SUV.

People at the scene of the crash began to administer first aid to Vega before more first responders arrived, and Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown, who happened to be in the area, worked to block traffic, Weisberg said.

"This is now the 13th fatal traffic-related crash in the city this year. We do, as a Salt Lake City Police Department, encourage drivers to slow down on our roadways," Weisberg said. The Salt Lake City Council passed a resolution to lower the speed limit on residential streets to 20 mph on Tuesday.

The driver of the SUV was cooperative after the crash.
