SARATOGA SPRINGS — A Highland man was arrested Tuesday after police say he tried to pull a woman out of her car as she sat in a grocery store parking lot, while telling her to go with him.
Scotty Farr Dickerson, 43, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of attempted kidnapping and other potential charges involving two separate cases.
On Tuesday, a woman was sitting in the passenger seat of her car in the parking lot of Smith's Marketplace, 689 N. Redwood Road in Saratoga Springs, as her husband loaded groceries into the vehicle. When the husband was done, he walked away from the car to put the shopping cart away.
"While her husband was away from the vehicle, a male exited his vehicle, which was parked next to her car, and walked to her door. The male opened her vehicle door and told her to come with him. The victim stated she did not know who he was and was not going with him, at which time the male grabbed her by the shoulder and attempted to pull her out of the vehicle," according to a police booking affidavit.
The woman yelled, "I'm not going with you," catching the attention of her husband. The husband confronted Dickerson, who then got into his car and began to drive away, the affidavit states. The woman and her husband followed Dickerson, got his license plate information and then went to the police department.
Using the license plate number, police identified Dickerson as a possible suspect. The officer also went to Smith's to review surveillance video.
"While viewing the video at Smith's, I was advised of a similar call occurring in Alpine/Highland. I contacted Alpine police officers and found they had Scotty Dickerson in custody for a similar incident," the affidavit states.
Alpine police arrested Dickerson after witnesses reported he seemed "disoriented and was opening car doors that did not belong to him," a separate police affidavit states.
When confronted by officers, Dickerson "was lying to police officers and was making (fidgety) movements," the affidavit alleges. When officers attempted to place handcuffs on him, Dickerson resisted and "threw closed fist punches at officers, striking officers in the head and face area. Scotty was then tased and officers were able to handcuff him."
Dickerson was booked into jail on the Alpine incident for investigation two counts of assault on a police officer, three counts of vehicle burglary, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, interring with an arrest and intoxication. He was booked on the Saratoga Springs incident for investigation of attempted kidnapping, disorderly conduct, vehicle burglary and assault.
