SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police and East High School resource officers are investigating an aggravated assault involving a firearm that occurred Friday night near the football stadium, police said Sunday.
A 17-year-old East High School student told police he saw a woman and an 18-year-old man fighting Friday evening. The 17-year-old got involved, which resulted in a second fight between the 17-year-old and 18-year-old, police said.
The man pulled a gun and hit the 17-year-old in the head with it, ending the dispute, police said. No shots were fired.
The man left the area before officers arrived at the scene. It was unknown whether the woman left with the man.
The 17-year-old declined medical assistance, police said.
Salt Lake police and the Salt Lake City School District have made contact with the 17-year-old and the student's parents regarding the incident. The man has been identified by East High School resource officers but no arrests have been made.
Police said a safety plan has been created and additional officers were available for the school's homecoming dance on Saturday.
