WEST JORDAN — A fight at a rodeo on July 24 resulted in one man having a chunk of his ear bitten off.

The incident happened Saturday at the West Jordan rodeo grounds, 8035 S. 2200 West. Near the end of the event, a spectator was dancing in the stands and another man apparently took offense to it, said West Jordan Police Lt. Richard Bell. The man tackled the dancing spectator and the two got into a fight, he said.

At some point during the fight, the 31-year-old man who was dancing "bit part of the victim's right ear off," according to a police affidavit. When police responded and located the man, he was still carrying the piece of severed ear and had wrapped it in a bandana, the affidavit states.

The injured man was taken to a local hospital. As of Monday, it was not known if doctors were able to reattach his ear.

The alleged ear biter was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of mayhem.
