SALT LAKE CITY — Starting Saturday, the Utah Department of Health will no longer be providing daily COVID-19 case count updates on weekend days.

Daily updates will only be provided on official business days moving forward, the health department said. Monday is an observed holiday for the Fourth of July weekend, so that means the next COVID-19 cases report is expected on Tuesday.

The health department's case count information can be found at coronavirus.utah.gov/case-counts. KSL.com's coronavirus news coverage is available at ksl.com/news/coronavirus.

Here is a recap of the COVID-19 case counts from last week:

Utah is in the middle of another COVID-19 surge driven by the spread of the highly contagious delta variant among unvaccinated people.

Cases are expected to continue to spike during and after the July 4 holiday weekend, Utah Department of Health deputy director Dr. Michelle Hofmann said Thursday during a news conference. Utah has endured COVID-19 spikes after holidays throughout the pandemic.

"We're in a surge," Hofmann said. "Any of the gatherings that we've done historically, where we've seen a surge, are expected to increase cases."
