TAYLORSVILLE — A Salt Lake man with numerous no-bail warrants out for his arrest was apprehended Thursday following a chase and struggle with police that resulted in three officers suffering minor injuries.
The incident began about 6:30 p.m. Thursday when Gage Mcclellan Lint, 29, went to a relative's apartment in Taylorsville, broke in and threatened the family with a gun, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler.
Lint strangled and punched his wife, according to a police affidavit, and threatened to shoot or pistol whip his wife and other relatives in the house.
The family called police and officers spotted Lint as he was speeding away, Cutler said. Officers were able to spike one of Lint's tires, but he continued driving until he crashed into a pole near 3900 South and 900 East, she said.
Police say Lint then ran from the crash. Officers were able to catch up with him and use a Taser to stop him, Cutler said. But Lint allegedly continued to fight with officers as they attempted to handcuff him. Three officers received minor injuries during the struggle, including a sprained ankle and dislocated thumb.
Lint was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of two counts of aggravated assault, four counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, possession of a weapon by a restricted person, and two counts of failing to stop at the command of an officer.
Additionally, Lint had warrants out for his arrest in multiple cases that totaled 26 charges, according to police. Many of the warrants were for failing to comply with the conditions of his probation after avoiding being sent to prison.
Lint's lengthy criminal history most recently includes convictions from 2017 to 2019 on a variety of charges such as possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, theft by receiving stolen property, and fleeing from police. But in all of those convictions, Lint received a suspended prison sentence and later violated the conditions of his probation, according to court records.
Cutler said police hope this time he will be sent to prison.
"He's been given repeated chances and continues to violate," she said. "He's not going to follow the rules. He needs to be locked up. He's obviously a danger."
