PARK CITY — Hazardous material crews responded to a crash Wednesday on I-80 after a pickup truck rolled near the quarry of Parleys Canyon and its diesel fuel began leaking into a storm drain, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
According to UHP Lt. Nick Street, the pickup truck was traveling westbound around 4:30 p.m. when it merged into a lane where a semitruck carrying hazardous materials was traveling. The pickup truck glanced into the side of the semitruck and continued westbound, said Street. The driver of the semitruck pulled over and confirmed that the hazardous load was not compromised.
The pickup truck, after continuing to travel approximately 5 miles down the canyon, ended up crashing and rolling near the quarry, according to Street.
The truck began to leak diesel fuel into nearby drains, and hazmat crews were called to clean up the area.
There were no injuries, according to Street. He said impairment on the part of the pickup truck driver is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.
The right lanes of westbound I-80 were closed, according to the Utah Department of Transportation's traffic website, and the road is estimated to be cleared around 7:30 pm.
