DEAD OF WINTER — When it comes to manual labor, I wouldn't say I'm the best at it.
I once worked a landscaping job in college and it destroyed my soul. I also worked for a stonemason and it literally broke my bones.
I then worked in a factory making boat covers and let's just say the "perfect-fit custom covers" didn't fit quite so perfect. That's why I got a lazy man's job to sit at my computer, find videos for your enjoyment and tap out nonsense on my computer while I get fat.
I personally have great respect for those who do manual labor — it's an honest and respectful way to make a living. I wish I was more like that.
When it comes to clearing the snow off my driveway, I find it to be one of the most exhausting things. At least I got paid to do those jobs in college that I failed at so miserably. This I fail and I don't even get severance.
I also would be in a world of hurt if I didn't have my snowblower. When we bought our first house the first big snow came and left close to 2 feet outside of our house. I put on some gloves, grabbed my shovel and opened the garage. I looked at the sea of white and said, "Nope. Absolutely not." I then drove over the snow, straight to Lowe's and bought a snowblower. Best home purchase I've ever made.
Even with that behemoth I have in the garage that I couldn't afford, I still could not handle what's going on this video.
This is a time-lapse video captured in January of 2020 in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada. For those who don't know, that's on the east coast of our friends to the north. The snowstorm last year dropped nearly 3 feet of snow and brought with it winds of just over 93 mph.
The time-lapse shows a cul de sac trying to dig their way out of the own homes following the blizzard. As you can see, it takes all day and then another round in the evening when the roads were finally cleared.
Next time it snows I'll suck it up and remember I'm not in Newfoundland.
