SALT LAKE CITY — Attention all macaroni and cheese lovers: This Valentine's Day is about to get a heavy dose of sweetness.
Kraft is changing up the recipe for romance by offering 1,000 lucky lovers the chance to taste its all new, candy-flavored macaroni and cheese for free. That's right, this Feb. 14 will include the marriage of savory and sweet in an undeniably unconventional way.
"Sure it sounds a little strange, but hey, love makes people do strange things," Kraft's entry page reads.
And just to be certain this new concoction isn't mistaken for its traditional counterpart, it's getting a hot-pink makeover. The kit comes with a "candy packet" that turns the delectable new dish magenta and infuses a dose of sweetness that is likely not for the faint of heart.
For those who might be getting cold feet about the duo, rest assured that you won't find a piece of candy floating around in your noodles.
A Kraft-Heinz spokesperson reassured Today that beetroot and carrot concentrates are the combo behind the dish's pink coloring, while fructose and vanilla extract give the cheesy meal a noticeably sweeter flavor.
The company debuted its new flavor combo on Instagram and Facebook on Wednesday, and the announcement was met with mixed reviews.
Some declared their allegiance to the original.
"Sorry, would not eat it," wrote one Facebook user. "For sure my husband wouldn't either."
Others said it would be the perfect Valentine's Day dinner.
"Like any other Kraft product, this will taste like love," wrote one Instagram user.
Those looking to get their hands on the limited-edition Candy Kraft Mac & Cheese Kit can enter to win by visiting Kraft's official entry page. Entries will be accepted until Feb. 8, and Cupid will be shooting the kits right into the winners' homes just in time for Valentine's Day.
