WASATCH COUNTY — A man missing for a month was found dead Saturday morning.

Chad West, 53, was reported missing to the Wasatch County Sheriff's Office on Dec. 17, but a friend reported he had last been seen driving away from his home on Dec. 11.

Friends started a Facebook page organizing search parties and passing out flyers throughout December and into January. On Dec. 29, one of West's friends offered to fly search and rescue crews in his personal aircraft to search over the boat ramps at state parks in the county looking for West's black 2001 Ford F-250.

It wasn't until more than two weeks later that the first new piece of information came from someone who found a truck they believed to belong to West. The vehicle was found on Saturday on private property in the Hogs Back area on the north side of Daniels Canyon.

West's body was found nearby, according to officials.

Detectives are investigating why he went missing and the state medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Investigators do not suspect criminal activity at this time.
