PROVO — The Utah Department of Public Safety on Saturday identified a man and woman who died after their car collided with a semitruck Thursday evening in Provo.

The car's driver was Madalyn Fillmore, 22, of Lehi, officials said, and the passenger was Jacob Edwardson, 21, of Fresno, California.

Just after 9 p.m., Fillmore and Edwardson were in a Mazda driving northbound in the HOV lane just ahead of a semitruck a mile south of University Parkway on I-15, according to officials. For unknown reasons, Fillmore veered left and then overcorrected back right, crossing into the lane in front of the semitruck. The oncoming semitruck struck the broad side of the Mazda, killing both occupants. The semitruck driver was uninjured, officials said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
