SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Jonathan Tavernari scored a game-high 24 points and added nine rebounds and four steals to lead BYU to a 68-63 win over Utah State Saturday.
The Aggies (5-1) had a chance to tie the game with 3.4 seconds left, but Tavernari stole the inbounds pass, was fouled and made two free throws to seal the victory at Energy Solutions Arena, home of the NBA Utah Jazz.
The Cougars improved to 8-0 for BYU's best start since 1987-88.
Gary Wilkinson scored 22 points and added nine rebounds for the Aggies.
Tyler Newbold made a 3-pointer with 7.1 seconds left to pull Utah State within two points, but BYU's Jackson Emery hit the second of two free-throw attempts and Tavernari stole the inbounds pass and sealed the win a pair of free throws.
Emery also got his hand on the final steal and finished with five steals, six rebounds and nine points.
