SANDY — Jordan High School will be pivoting to online learning following an increase in COVID-19 cases at the school and surrounding neighborhoods, said Canyon School District on Tuesday.
Jordan High School has reported 19 positive COVID-19 cases over a two week period, according to the district dashboard.
Class is canceled for students registered for on-campus classes on Wednesday, Nov. 11. On Wednesday, faculty and staff will prepare to begin teaching virtual classes for the next two weeks, said school officials. The online instruction for all Jordan High students will begin Thursday, Nov. 12.
The district said that it hopes in-person instruction can resume after the Thanksgiving recess, on Monday, Nov. 30. In the meantime, Jordan High School will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before students return.
The Canyons Board and Administration will continue to monitor the situation and evaluate options in consultation with the Salt Lake County Health Department, said school officials.
Per an executive order by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, Utah student participation in extracurriculars, including Utah High School Activities Association-sponsored activities except for the teams participating in ongoing playoffs, have been placed on pause at least until Nov. 23.
