OGDEN — Two Weber County men allegedly assaulted a group that had just finished boating at Pineview Reservoir because they looked at them the wrong way, according to prosecutors.
Karson James Sneddon, 20, from Roy, and Ezequiel Cruz, 48, of West Haven, were each charged in 2nd District Court on Tuesday with rioting, a third-degree felony; and assault, a class A misdemeanor.
According to charging documents, the victims were leaving the boat ramp at Pineview Reservoir on Aug. 15 when they passed Sneddon and Cruz, "who believed that the victims were staring at them."
Words were exchanged, and Sneddon and Cruz told the other group "that they would meet them at the wipe down area," the charges state.
The victims pulled their boat further into the wipe down area than normal to create more space, according to the charges. But Sneddon, Cruz and another person still came up to them yelling, and then "attacked the victims with fists, resulting in one victim lying on the ground as he was kicked by the group. Another victim was punched in the back of the head as he attempted to defend the victim on the ground and was knocked unconscious," according to the charges.
Prior to being attacked, the victims called 911, the charges state. The third person with Sneddon and Cruz was not identified in court documents.
