WEST JORDAN — Police are searching for the person or people responsible for stealing a U-Haul trailer transporting a body to a funeral.
About 5:30 a.m. a thief detached the trailer in a West Jordan hotel parking lot, hooked it onto their car and drove away, City of West Jordan officials said via Twitter.
A family was transporting a loved one's body from Louisiana to the funeral in Utah, which was scheduled for Friday, Tauni Barker with West Jordan City told KSL.com.
Thanks to tips from the public, police were able to reunite the family with the person's remains after the abandoned trailer was found Friday afternoon at a church parking lot in Kearns.
Police are still looking for the responsible party, who reportedly is driving a four-door car with Wisconsin license plate 9685ZA.
Anyone with information on the theft or vehicle involved is asked to call 801-840-4000.
